SEND
At Miltoncross Academy, we expect all students, including those with SEND, to achieve and make progress in line with the achievements and progress of all other children within the school, and those nationally.
The SEND Code of Practice says that:
A child or young person has SEND if they have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for him or her.
A child of compulsory school age or a young person has a learning difficulty or disability if they:
- have a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age, or;
- have a disability which prevents or hinders them from making use of facilities of a kind generally provided for others of the same age in mainstream schools.
A child under compulsory school age has special educational needs if they are likely to fall within the definition above when they reach compulsory school age or would do so if special educational provision was not made for them.
There are four broad categories of SEND:
1. Communication and interaction – such as Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and Speech and Language difficulties.
2. Cognition and learning – such as Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and Moderate Learning Difficulties.
3. Social, emotional and mental health – such as ADHD, Attachment Disorders, emotional difficulties and mental health difficulties.
4. Physical and sensory – such as a physical disability that impairs learning, hearing impairments and visual impairments

Reasonable Adjustments Request
A reasonable adjustment is a change a school can make to help remove barriers for a child, ensuring they can attend school, access their learning, and take part fully in school life. At Miltoncross Academy, we will always do our very best to put the right adjustments in place when a request is approved.
To make sure each decision is in the child’s best interests, we ask that any request is supported by appropriate evidence, which may sometimes include medical information. If we are unable to agree to a request, we will make every effort to guide families toward other helpful options wherever possible.
All requests are carefully considered by our Inclusion Panel, which includes the Deputy Headteacher for Inclusion, the SENDCo, and the Inclusion Lead. You will receive a written response within 10 working days of your request being received.
If your request is not approved and you would like to appeal the decision, you may take your appeal to the Headteacher.
