At Miltoncross Academy, we prioritize the health and well-being of every student.
Through a comprehensive approach that includes physical education, mental health support, and a safe, inclusive environment, we strive to ensure our students thrive both inside and outside the classroom. Medical Procedure
If your child is feeling unwell and you're not sure if they are well enough to come to school, please send them in and inform the school of their condition.
Very often once the child is at school, they begin to feel better.
If they do not improve, our trained First Aiders can re-assess them and contact you should it become necessary to ask permission for your child to be sent home.
If your child feels unwell or is injured at school, our Student Health Lead, Ms Romain, (or another First Aid trained member of staff) will treat your child promptly. If they feel that other appropriate action is needed, you will be informed immediately by telephone.
If they are unable to get hold of you, they will leave a voicemail asking you to call back.
Students can be collected or can make their own way home, however they will not be sent home until we have consent from a parent and/or guardian. Students who have had a head injury are required to be collected.
Under new regulations, all medication that we hold on site that has been brought in by students must be accompanied by a Student Medication Storage Record, signed by parents/guardians, and must outline various important factors such as the dosage, frequency and storage requirements of the medication.
All medications we take in to store must be boxed and clearly labelled (name and dosage). It will be stored in a locked cupboard and trained staff will supervise the administration of all medication.
We can only follow the instructions on the medication box. We cannot give 2x paracetamol to any student under the age of 16, or Ibuprofen tablets to any student under 12.
Please be aware that students are not currently permitted to carry their own medication and must hand it in to Reception at the beginning of the day. If there are expectional circumstances where you feel your child does need to carry their medication with them, please call a member of the First Aid team to discuss this.
Students are allowed to carry their asthma inhalers and epi-pens on them or in their bags.
If your child requires daily medication, we will ask you to complete a Medication Storage Form and provide us with the timings of the doses. The First Aid team will then go to your child’s classroom at the requested time and provide the medication for your child to self-administer.
If you agree to our Paracetamol Protocol, your child can be given Paracetamol.
Consent can be provided via the Arbor Parent Portal.
- Miltoncross Academy will keep a supply of Paracetamol to administer to students when required.
- Paracetamol will only be administered at break times, unless the student has a pre-existing medical condition.
- Prior written consent from parents is required, in addition to verbal consent on the day, before any paracetamol is administered to a student.
- A member of staff will witness any student taking Paracetamol and a record will be kept.
- Only one dose of Paracetamol a day will be administered to a student, if there is an improvement the student will return to lessons, if there is no improvement a call will be made to parents.
- Paracetamol can be administered to a student up to three times within a week. Should your child request more than this you will be advised to seek medical advice, unless it is for a specific medical condition for a limited period of time.
- Students can bring in their own Paracetamol which must be stored in the Medical Room, alongside a signed Student Medication Storage Form.
When your child is too unwell and/or unable to attend school, it is crucial that the following steps are observed for each day of their absence.

Sanitary Products and Menstrual Health
Access to free sanitary products is essential for ensuring that all students can attend school with comfort, confidence, and dignity.
Providing these products helps remove barriers to education and promotes equality by supporting those who might otherwise miss classes due to lack of access.
Menstrual health is a normal and natural part of life — it should never be a source of embarrassment or fear.
By talking openly and offering support, our school aims to create a caring and inclusive environment where every student feels respected, informed, and empowered to manage their health confidently.
Free sanitary products are available from the Medical Room (now located in the Warrior Suite), the ACE Room, and the Pastoral and Welfare Office.
