After over a year of fundraising to finance their trip, 19 students and 4 staff spent 12 very hot days in Ghana. They worked on projects at the Woe E.P Basic School and Jehova School, teaching students, completing a perimeter wall, making concrete bricks and laying the foundations of a new toilet block.  The lessons taught by our staff and students were immensely popular with school children bringing in desks from other classrooms and stacking them so that there were often over 80 school children in one classroom!

In the evenings our group stayed at The Youth Will Grow International Orphanage in Woe. Staff and students played games and taught the Ghanaian children songs and they taught us African drumming and some of the games they play. Strong friendships were formed with students and staff at the orphanage and many tears were shed from both sides on the last day.

Staff and children from the Ghanaian projects were surprised by how young our students were, as it is usually 6th form or university students who volunteer. They were also amazed how incredibly hard they worked!

We are incredibly proud of our student and staff volunteers, what they managed to achieve and the difference they have made to the lives of the Ghanaian children.
